Juneteenth Celebrations in New York City
15th Annual Juneteenth NY Festival Returns to Brooklyn
Hybrid Celebration Features In-Person and Online Events
New York, NY - The 15th Annual Juneteenth NY Festival is set to take place in Brooklyn this weekend. The hybrid celebration will feature both in-person and online events, offering a variety of ways for New Yorkers to commemorate the Juneteenth holiday.
The festival will take place from Friday, June 16th to Sunday, June 18th, with a wide range of events planned. These include concerts, festivals, and more. The festival will also feature a marketplace with food, art, and merchandise from local vendors.
"We're excited to be able to offer a hybrid celebration this year," said festival organizer Ayo Harrington. "This will allow more people to participate in the festivities, regardless of their location or ability to attend in person."
The Juneteenth holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and that all slaves were free.
The Juneteenth NY Festival is one of the largest Juneteenth celebrations in the country. It attracts thousands of attendees each year and has become a beloved tradition for many New Yorkers.
